Statement by Co-operating Partners in the Health Sector (30/04/2009)
In response to recent press reports of the Ministry of Health procuring Chinese mobile hospital units, we would like to clarify the following:
- We have discussed this proposal with the Ministry of Health;
- We are grateful to the Minister of Health for his assurance that no contract has been
agreed; and
- That the Ministry of Health, Co-operating Partners and other stakeholders will jointly assess this proposals and any other major health policy decisions through the normal mechanisms.
The Co-operating Partners remain committed to supporting the Ministry of Health to achieve the goals of the National Health Strategic Plan 2006 – 2010 and accelerate progress towards the health Millennium Development Goals. Cooperating Partners have not withdrawn their support from the sector and signed agreements - such as the EC’s Euro 36 million sector budget support to health - remain unchanged.
We look forward to the continuing partnership with the Ministry of Health and are consulting on a suitable date for the signing of the addendum to the 2006 Health MoU.
Issued on 30 April, on behalf of the Co-operating Partners in the Health Sector.
