Areas we cover
The British High Commission represents the UK Government in its relations with the Zambian Government and promotes British interests in Zambia. It comprises a range of sections.
The High Commissioner, who is based in Lusaka, ensures that UK policies are explained to the Zambian Government and its people. He also explains Zambian policies to the British Government.
The Political Section is responsible for political relations between the two countries, and also handles economic and defence issues. Zambia and the United Kingdom work together in areas such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, democracy, human rights, press freedom, anti-corruption and other governance issues.
The Press and Public Affairs is responsible for promoting British Government policies in Zambia and for media relations between the two countries. It also manages the Bilateral Fund.
The Management Section is responsible for all personnel, financial and administrative services and resources and provides support to all other sections.
Consular Section is responsible for British passport and nationality enquiries and the consular protection of British citizens in Zambia.
Visa Section provides a visa service for Zambians and others wishing to travel to the UK.
Other Partners
The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational and cultural relations. The British Council manages various projects connecting people worldwide with learning opportunities and sharing creative ideas from the UK which builds mutual lasting relationships between the Zambia and the UK.
The Department for International Development (DFID) is the part of the UK Government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries, including Zambia, and works to get rid of extreme poverty.
