Our High Commission in Lusaka
Mission Statement:
The aim of the British High Commission in Lusaka is to work closely with the government and people of Zambia for our mutual benefit, representing the UK and implementing UK foreign policy in Zambia and engaging with Zambia in areas of common interest, such as good governance and climate change. We also support the UK's Department for International Development in working to reduce poverty in Zambia and the British Council in its leadership and education activities. We provide consular support to British Nationals, both visiting and resident, and process visas for foreign nationals interested in visiting the UK. We aim to provide the best quality of service to all our customers and to ensure our staff are well qualified, professional and motivated.
Sections
There are a range of sections at the High Commission responsible for facilitating the bilateral relationship between the UK and Zambia.
The Political Section is responsible for political relations between the two countries, and also handles economic and defence issues. Zambia and the United Kingdom work together in areas such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, democracy, human rights, press freedom, climate change, anti-corruption and other governance issues.
The Press and Public Affairs Section is responsible for promoting British Government policies in Zambia and for media relations between the two countries. It also manages the Bilateral Fund.
The Management Section is responsible for all personnel, financial and administrative services and resources and provides support to all other sections.
Consular Section is responsible for British passport and nationality enquiries and the consular protection of British citizens in Zambia.
Visa Section provides a visa service for Zambians and others wishing to travel to the UK.
Other Partners
The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational and cultural relations. The British Council manages various projects connecting people worldwide with learning opportunities and sharing creative ideas from the UK which builds mutual lasting relationships between the Zambia and the UK.
The Department for International Development (DFID) is the part of the UK Government that manages Britain's aid to developing countries, including Zambia, and works to get rid of extreme poverty.
