How to apply

If you're living in Zambia, you can apply for your first British passport or renewal of your existing British passport at the Consular section of the British High Commission in Lusaka.

Lost or stolen passport 

If you have lost your passport or it's been stolen, please go to our Lost and Stolen page for more information.

Passports for children

If the father is signing the application form, we require a signed letter of consent from the child's mother stating that she has no objection to the passport application. The mother's passport will be requested as proof of her signature.

Interviews for certain applicants

If you are applying for a British passport for the first time, replacing a passport following loss or theft, have changed your name (other than marriage, civil partnership, divorce or dissolution), have not held a valid passport for more than 10 years, renewing an old blue style passport, or hold an Overseas Territories passport (other than Gibraltar), then you may require an interview before passport facilities can be considered.  Applications must be submitted a minimum of 6 weeks in advance of planned travel to allow sufficient processing time.  

Processing time

Please note that the current processing time for passports, provided all correct supporting documentation is in order, will be 18  working days.  Only in a genuine emergency, supported by written confirmation from an appropriate authority, will any exception be made.  It is up to the individual to keep his or her passport updated and we cannot be held responsible if the applicant is unable to travel due to late submission of the application.  

Passport processing arrangements will soon be changing.  As a result you should be aware that in future it may take longer than ten working days to process a passport as the production side will be moving to another post outside Zambia.  We will update our website as and when the new arrangements come into effect.
