How do I apply
Biometric Data Collection
All applicants should ensure that their fingertips are free from any forms of decoration (henna, for example), abrasions or other markings prior to attending the British High Commission as these may affect their ability to provide acceptable fingerscans. Visa applications cannot be processed until applicants are able to provide acceptable fingerscans.
Application Methods and Forms
All visa applicants over the age of 5 (five) should attend the visa section in person to lodge applications. Please note that all applications are assessed on submitted papers at the initial stage. Failure to provide adequate documentation may lead to refusal without interview. You will find all the application forms and guidance notes that you need to make a visa application on the UK Border Agency website. Information leaflets are also available from the visa section.
If you are applying under Tier One of the Points Based System, full details, including on the Administrative Review are available on the UK Border Agency website.
Waiting Times
The customer service standards have now changed, therefore, we cannot guarantee individual processing times. The UK Border Agency guide gives visa applicants information on how long their applications may take. In some cases, visa applicants will be asked to attend an interview before a decision can be made on their application. The waiting time for interviews also varies according to season.
Documents Required:
- Your passport
- Two recent passport photographs of yourself
- The visa fee, which is non-refundable
- Relevant fully completed application form
For a general guide to the documentation required check the list at the back of the application form and see guidance leaflets available on the website.
You should not buy your ticket in advance as delays or refusal of your visa application could result in financial loss.
Please remember: it is not possible to change the status of all visa categories in the UK, for example you cannot change from a visitor to student status.
What documents do I need to provide to make my application?
There is no set list of documents which should be provided as this varies depending on the category that you are applying for. The guidance notes on the website list the documents most commonly asked for. There is also a general checklist at the back of the application forms.
